When did Coastal UMC begin?

Coastal UMC began with a small group of people in November of 2011. This group began meeting at the Foley United Methodist Church on Wednesday nights. Together we journeyed through the Alpha Course. The opportunity arose that allowed us to begin Sunday morning worship services at the Foley Elementary School. This was an exciting venture that we all embraced. As a group we felt that God was leading us to step out in faith. This was a bold step for us. Our group was quite small which meant that each of us would bear a good bit of responsibility. But, we were up to the challenge! We all had the same vision of planting a new United Methodist Church that would reach out to new people.

Why do we need a new church in this area?

It is widely known that Baldwin County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in Alabama and in the entire nation. Therefore, the population will continue to grow providing for an increased opportunity to offer new and vibrant worship and service possibilities by planting new churches.

What if the church was a verb, might be a better question. Well, right from the beginning Coastal UMC desires to be a church on the move, expressing the love of God by challenging all people to become engaged in the Word of God, involved in serving the greater community, and excited about a vision to reach people with the love of God. Coastal UMC captures the very essence of both living on the Gulf Coast and living in search of a deep relationship with God. As we move forward with Coastal UMC we desire to move in the community, even in the uncomfortable places because it is what God wants us to do.
