Today is a great day! The Psalmist proclaims that: “This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it” (Ps.118:24). This is the day the Lord has made for those who have chosen to embark upon a new vision. Each day has its own life and character and is special in its own right. But this is a day in which the providence of God has chosen to do a new thing! There is a fresh wind of God’s Spirit blowing upon His faithful. Here at Coastal UMC we are ecstatic about the possibilities that lie before us. Who knows for sure where God will take us? Who knows what the future will be like? It’s a journey for the bravehearted, and for those who are willing to test the waters of life.

Alpha is an opportunity to explore the meaning of life in a relaxed, friendly setting. The Alpha course usually meets once per week for 15 weeks, and includes an amazing one-day or weekend getaway. Each session, people enjoy great food, laughter and learning in a fun and friendly atmosphere where no question about life or God is seen as too simple or too hostile…
questions like—Is there a God? Why am I here? Where did I come from?
Where am I going?

Who Is Alpha For?
Alpha is for anyone…anyone who thinks there may be more to life than meets the eye. People attend from all backgrounds, religions, and viewpoints. They come to investigate questions about the existence of God, the purpose of life, the afterlife, the claims of Jesus and more. Some people want to get beyond religion and find a relationship with God that really changes life. Others come for the close, long-lasting friendships that are built during the Alpha course. Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. Everyone is welcome.

Pastor Michael Ramsey is the founding pastor of Coastal United Methodist Church and has been a resident of the area since 2005. He has been married to his beautiful wife Teressa for 20 years. Cherilyn and Anna are their two beautiful daughters. Teressa is a very gifted singer and teacher. Together they have shared the ministry for many years. Pastor Michael began his ministry working with both children and youth. He still has a deep passion for the hearts of God’s young people. Being a musician, Michael was attracted early on to the contemporary worship scene that was taking place in many churches. Shortly thereafter he joined the praise team at his local church. Over the years Michael has taken the initiative in putting together several dynamic worship teams with both excellent musicians and anointed singers. Above all, Pastor Michael’s love for God’s word is evident in his ability and desire to share and teach the simple message of faith, hope and love. God has given Michael a vision to reach the people of the Gulf Coast with the love of Christ, unending hope, and faith to move mountains.

What We Believe

Here are some of our basic beliefs at Coastal United Methodist Church:

• We believe in the oneness of God, existing eternally in three persons (God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit). This is known as the Trinity, or the Triune God.
• The Bible is the written Word of God and is as alive today as it was thousands of years ago.  The Bible is fully true, and is our authority for what we believe, how we live, and how we “do church.”
• Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the Messiah promised in the Old Testament.
• Jesus Christ is fully God and yet fully Man – born of a virgin birth.
• Jesus’ teachings form the foundation of the Christian Church today.
• Jesus Christ died, rose from the grave (a victory over sin and death), and will come again to judge the living and the dead.
• We believe that the Holy Spirit is the very Spirit of God who lives inside all of us, giving each person the opportunity to live life wholly different in supernatural ways.
• Humans were created in the image of God and are the object of God’s love.  Sin has and continues to be a barrier preventing us from experiencing an intimate relationship with God and living out God’s great plan for our lives.
• All who place their trust in Jesus are given new birth, new life and begin to grow (becoming sanctified) as adopted children of God realizing their full potential via the grace, love, and mercy available through an ongoing, eternal relationship with Jesus the Christ.
• The Holy Spirit is active today in changing lives, healing, gifting believers, and answering prayers.  The Holy Spirit is everywhere!
• We are able to live godly lives only as we die to self (our selfish motives and desires) and allow the Spirit of God to live in and through us.
• God accepts us just as we are, but never intends for us to stay just as we were, rather to gain glimpses of heaven by the way we choose to live our life on Earth.
• The people of God exist to love God and love all others calling people out of darkness and into God’s marvelous light!

A Compelling Vision

Vision 50/50

• What if… a church moved outside of its four walls?
• What if… a church was truly more concerned about the people not attending church than those that already are?
• What if… a church actually thought of themselves as the hands and feet of Christ in the world today?
• What if… a church existed for the sole purpose of creating a better community for people to experience?
• What if… church was more than Sunday morning?
• What if… church was more than another bible study?
• What if… What if… What if…?

• What would a church look like if it gave more of its resources away instead of building bigger “Temples?”
• What would a church look like if it held in balance personal holiness with social responsibility?
• What would a church look like if the people of God quit playing church and began living church Monday-Sunday in our community?
• What would a church look like…?

These and other questions are worth exploring.  At Coastal UMC we have a compelling vision from God.  A vision that is risky, a vision that calls us to question who we are as a church.  This is a vision that compels us to care more about one another and our community than this specific church.  This is a vision that calls forth once again a people to rely on the promises of God.

What would a church look like that depended on God showing up to feed the 5000 when all you may have are five loaves and two fish?

This is VISION 50/50!

• Vision 50/50 recognizes that community is just as important as individuality.
• Vision 50/50 taps into the heart of humanity believing that all people want to be part of doing something good for the world.
• Vision 50/50 is here for us to be part of God’s plan to transform the world ONE community at a time.

What is the basic understanding of Vision 50/50?

• 50% of all our financial giving will go to community missions / community impact.  That is right, 50% of ALL our resources will be given away! ( If you give $100 dollars on a Sunday morning, $50 will be set aside for the incredible task of bettering our community locally and globally!)
• 50% of all our activity in the church will move toward the goal of making our community a better place.
• 50% of all that we do in the life of the church will focus on others, on the world that God so loved and created for us to enjoy!

When did Coastal UMC Church begin?

Our Church has its beginnings back in July 2008 when Patrick and Rachael Quinn moved their family here from Montgomery, AL.  They have spent the last year forming a Core Group of people who would see a larger vision of planting a new United Methodist Church that would reach out to new people.

Why do we need a new church in this area?

It is widely known that Baldwin County continues to be one of the fastest growing counties in Alabama and in the entire nation.  Therefore, the population will continue to grow providing for an increased opportunity to offer new and vibrant worship and service possibilities by planting new churches.

Why the name Coastal?

What if the church was a verb, might be a better question.  Well, right from the beginning Coastal UMC Church has desired to be a church on the move, expressing the love of God by challenging all people to go into the deep waters. Deep into the Word of God, deep into serving the greater community, and diving deep off the coast to reach people with the love of God.  Coastal captures the very essence of both living on the Gulf Coast and living in search of a deep relationship with God. A love that runs deep. How far will it take you? Let’s go Deep!
